Last day of July 1599

The which day George Patoun, mason, admitted and confessed that he had offended against the Deacon and ?members putting an unqualified mason1 to work at a chimneyhead for two and a half days, for the which offence he submitted himself to the Deacon and ?members’ good will for that illegal act that they please to lay to his charge, and they, having respect to the said George’s humble submission and to his position in the community, they remit him of the said offence, providing always that if he or any other brother commit the same offence hereafter, that the law shall strike them indiscriminately without exception of persons. This was done in the presence of Paul Mason, Deacon, Thomas Weir , Warden. John Brown, Henry Taillefer2 , the said George Paton and Adam Walker. So it is Adam Gibson, notary. Paul Mason, Deacon.
